My literacy experience
I strongly feel that my literacy experience in grade 6 through 12 was great because my teachers would always call on me to read. I feel that this is one of the things that made me a confident reader. I feel that constantly reading out loud is what enhanced my language development at a early age in my life. I don't have a particular book that impacted me the most but reading English novels in general tremendously increased my vocabulary skills during that time. My 7th grade English teacher impacted me the most because she expected us to use appropriate grammar when speaking in class in front of others. Every class we had to write about something unique that happened to us during that particular week. I naturally get excited about those type of assignments because I love expressing myself through writing. I personally feel that those past positive classroom experiences will help in my future English classes because I can use that same creativity to enhance the learning ability of my future students once I get my certification and start teaching. One of the unique things that I will do in my classes is have students pick a random positive word that come to their mind and write about it. This is one of the reasons I was so excited when Dr. Giles had us write about a positive word and my prayers are that we can do this more often.
