Blog post #8 Chapter 11

Reading into memory was a interesting topic in the book because thinking about my life and experiences is the main thing that made me interested in writing. When I think about things that happened in my life, it was either a blessing or a lesson. Experience is the best teacher so writing about what certain experiences has taught me is very exciting. You may think that the experiences in your life may be boring but others may find it interesting when you write about it. The key is finding the right experiences in your life to write about that you feel can teach others. Another topic in the book I chose to discuss is thinking toward writing. When you are at the coffee shop grabbing coffee, that is a good time to meditate and think about what has happened in your life that's considered a teachable moment. When you are relaxing on your spare time at different places it is a perfect opportunity to make mental notes on what you would love to write about. When you never put in time to th...

Sometimes I have no idea what to write about. Once I find a topic that interest me, I am as focused as a rat trying to get to a piece of cheese. Finding the three main points to list in my introduction can appear as challenging as putting together a puzzle. Once I brainstorm and get my thoughts and ideas together. it feels as if I can write blind folded. When I get stuck in the middle of my writing, three minute meditation is always the key to me refreshing my memory on things I already know. If my writing can make the audience feel like they are a part of my story, I am confident I have done my job as a writer.

I learned from the book head, heart, and connections that you can feel emotions such as empathy when you are reading because you are able to effectively put yourself in the character shoes. This is most prevalent when you have went through similar experiences as the character in the book that you are reading. There are also mental images that come into your mind when you are reading an interesting book. The interesting thing about reading is it does not just cram information in your brain but it can change how your brain work and interpret what you are reading. You can also learn interesting information about yourself when you are reading because you can experience different emotions that reminds you of an event in your life. This can help in the classroom because when students learn how to interpret what they are feeling when they are reading it can enhance their academic success in the classroom. This can also help them in comprehending what they are reading especially when the ...

blog # 4 exploring reading lives

I basically have a habit of keeping my Bomer book or other essential books in my backpack since I am taking courses that are very busy on blackboard. This keeps me from running back to my apartment for my book when I have an assignment that is due. I also keeps these books in the outer section of my backpack so I do not have to dig around in my backpack for it. My reading appointments with books are usually in the late evenings since this is the time of day that I am the most relaxed and less busy. This is also the time I read any type of books. I enjoy reading in the HBU library or at home because it is a warm comfortable environment away from the outdoor elements. I find it easy to read at school as well but the bed or the kitchen table is way too challenging because I tend to fall asleep instantly in the bedroom. The ladies in the HBU library often know what I am reading because I communicate with them often and spend plenty time in the HBU library. Sometimes I tell them about ...

When I read a story I am able to visualize what I am reading through the characters emotions in the story. For example, when I read new kid, I pictured a child facial expression full of anxiety at a new school where he is totally lost and nervous. When I read a story it is like a movie in my mind so it is easier for me to see. When reading a book, I can hear it with a lot of enthusiasm in the character voice. I think this comes natural for me because I am the type of reader that look for anything that triggers excitement within a book. I also picture the characters according to the type of book that I am reading. For example, when I read new kid, I was able to visualize a little boy with a very anxious and concerned expression on his face. The things that I think about when I picture the characters is what type of mood they will be in at the end of the story. I say this because stories can appear sad in the beginning but have a very happy ending when the characters has adjusted to...

blog #3 Slice of life

My slice of life moment was in 4th grade because I would naturally feel motivated and get an adrenaline rush when the teacher would consistently use my writing as an example to other students on how to effectively write essays. She would also call on me regularly to tutor other students in writing essays. The thing that excited me the most is knowing that my hard work was not going unnoticed. I was a very humble student so it was clearly not an ego thing with me. I took my writing very seriously in the 4th grade because I was passionate about competing in writing and spelling bee contests. I strongly feel that it enhanced my motivation because feedback is very essential when striving to reach your highest potential in writing. I feel that as a future teacher, I would automatically understand the challenges my students face in writing because I started taking writing serious at a very early age.

My literacy experience

I strongly feel that my literacy experience in grade 6 through 12 was great because my teachers would always call on me to read. I feel that this is one of the things that made me a confident reader. I feel that constantly reading out loud is what enhanced my language development at a early age in my life. I don't have a particular book that impacted me the most but reading English novels in general tremendously increased my vocabulary skills during that time. My 7th grade English teacher impacted me the most because she expected us to use appropriate grammar when speaking in class in front of others. Every class we had to write about something unique that happened to us during that particular week. I naturally get excited about those type of assignments because I love expressing myself through writing. I personally feel that those past positive classroom experiences will help in my future English classes because I can use that same creativity to enhance the learning ability of my...
